Peace Day at Rock Creek is Friday, September 20th!!

International Day of Peace is celebrated all over the world.  It is a day to be especially mindful of how kind we are to other people.  It is also a day to remember that we can resolve conflicts peacefully. This is something we want our students to do every day!  Peace Day is an opportunity to place extra emphasis on living peacefully in our homes, schools, and communities.

Rock Creek Elementary School will have a special Pinwheels for Peace ceremony on Friday, September 20th at approximately 1:15 p.m.  Students will start gathering for the ceremony at 1:00. We will start as soon as everyone is in place and ready. This is also a House Friday, so students should wear their house colors to school that day.  Mr. Nagle will paint a large peace sign on the grass in front of the school. The students will place pinwheels in the ground on the sign.  All of the students will stand at the peace sign for the ceremony. Mrs. Benere will lead the speaking part of the ceremony, and the students will sing songs.  The ceremony is short (approximately 15 minutes) but meaningful. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the gym.

Parents/Guardians and families of Rock Creek students are invited to watch our Peace Day ceremony.  Here’s what you need to know:

  1.  Visitors must check-in at the office by 1:00 p.m.  Visitors will be given a visitors’ sticker which must be placed on their shirts so that it is clearly visible to all.

  2. Visitors must wait in the lobby area until the ceremony starts.  When called to the ceremony, visitors will watch by the fence.

  3. After the ceremony, parents/guardians must return to their vehicles.

We challenge our students to be especially kind all day on Peace Day.  We want everyone to show kindness everywhere they go.  We hope you enjoy a peaceful day on September 20th!

*International Day of Peace is actually on Saturday, Sept. 21st; however, since we are not in school on Saturday, we will celebrate on Friday
